Just like today, there were many ancient units of measurement varying in
size. This is important since we need
to use appropriate units, suitable for the different items we need to
measure.
For example we may use ounces to weigh a
potato, while it would be more suitable to weigh very heavier items in
pounds. Having a variety of units to choose from also makes estimation of
weight easier.
When working with a variety of units, we must be able to convert from one
unit to a next (eg. 1 carob seed = 4 wheat grains). |
